3. SCOPE

This conference is aimed at gathering scientists using modern functional brain mapping techniques such as PET, SPECT, fMRI, EEG, MEG, optical imaging and neuroanatomical tools for assessment of the operation of the human brain. The meeting will focus on neuroscience and on applications of these techniques to study brain implementation of sensory and motor systems, vision, attention, memory and language in normal and pathological states. Methodological issues will also be addressed as they relate to the above biological themes.

10. TWO DAY WORKSHOP ON FUNCTIONAL MRI
Sunday, June 16 & Monday, June 17.
Sponsored by the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Organization for Human Brain Mapping.
Organized by Robert L. Savoy, Ph.D., Director of fMRI Education, MGH

This is a two day workshop on the basics of functional MRI and advanced technical issues relating fMRI to neuroimaging research. The two days differ in target audience: The first day ("Tutorial Lectures") is intended for newcomers to functional MRI. It will be a series of lectures on the basics of the technology, data analysis, and the design and execution of fMRI-based neuroscience experiments. The second day ("Current Technical Issues in fMRI") is intended for an audience familiar with the basics of fMRI. There will be 5 or 6 different panels, each addressing an issue of current research activity and/or controversy.
Participants may register for either or both days. (There is a substantial decrease in cost for early registration, and for students.) The workshop will be held immediately prior to the Second International Conference on Functional Mapping of the Human Brain, in Boston, Massachusetts. It will be held in the same location (The Sheraton Hotel) as the main conference. The final panel on the second day, "Recognizing Your Own Bad Data", will be free (no registration fee required to attend just this panel).
